Talking Heads ~ 1983
Think Summer 1985, who did you hear on the radio? Most likely you were listening to Talking Heads regularly. Now that is not always a bad thing ( when I had to hear Thriller 8 million times a day, yes that was annoying ) but with David Byrnes and the Talking Heads it was always welcome.
The Talking Heads started in NY in 1974 and brought us music until 1991 , when they broke up. Not a soap I want to get into today.
The band members were David Byrne, Chris Frantz, Tina Weymouth and Jerry Harrison and the band was classified as Punk and New Wave
Talking Heads was called by some one of the most critically acclaimed bands of the 80′s ( see quote in Wiki here….http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talking_Heads
They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002, had four albums appear in Rollingstone Magazines 2003 list of the 50 Greatest Albums of all time (http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/5938174/the_rs_500_greatest_albums_of_all_time/
How did the name get chosen? Tina Weymouth states that the group choose the name when a friend had found the name in the TV guide used as a term to describe the head and shoulder shot of a person talking as all content no action. Sadly, I do not know much about the early Talking Heads stuff, I was just a kid at home and if it was not playing on top 40 am radio I did not know it. Just how it was where I came from.
But when I did get my first introduction to the band, wow.
Speaking In Tongues in 1983 was a rude and awesome awakening for me, my first real foray into Punk that I liked. I had heard punk ( Blondie) but did not relate, Talking Heads changed that.
Of course Burning Down the House was almost everyone’s favorite off the album but it was the video that got my attention most. I am an artist at heart and totally appreciated the talent displayed in that video. One of MTV finest moments in my opinion when they choose to let that video play for all it was worth.
After that album hit I went on to raise my family and sort of lost the desire to be insanely into music as it arrived, it was a job that had my attention. But they will always have a special place in my soul of music. If you want all the details, info etc, check out the Bands Website ~
