Talking Heads ~ 1983

Think Summer 1985, who did you hear on the radio? Most likely you were listening to Talking Heads regularly. Now that is not always a bad thing ( when I had to hear Thriller 8 million times a day, yes that was annoying ) but with David Byrnes and the Talking Heads it was always welcome.
The Talking Heads started in NY in 1974 and brought us music until 1991 , when they broke up. Not a soap I want to get into today.
The band members were David Byrne, Chris Frantz, Tina Weymouth and Jerry Harrison and the band was classified as Punk and New Wave
Talking Heads was called by some one of the most critically acclaimed bands of the 80′s ( see quote in Wiki here….http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talking_Heads

They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002, had four albums appear in Rollingstone Magazines 2003 list of the 50 Greatest Albums of all time (http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/5938174/the_rs_500_greatest_albums_of_all_time/

How did the name get chosen? Tina Weymouth states that the group choose the name when a friend had found the name in the TV guide used as a term to describe the head and shoulder shot of a person talking as all content no action. Sadly, I do not know much about the early Talking Heads stuff, I was just a kid at home and if it was not playing on top 40 am radio I did not know it. Just how it was where I came from.

But when I did get my first introduction to the band, wow.

Speaking In Tongues in 1983 was a rude and awesome awakening for me, my first real foray into Punk that I liked. I had heard punk ( Blondie) but did not relate, Talking Heads changed that.

Of course Burning Down the House was almost everyone’s favorite off the album but it was the video that got my attention most. I am an artist at heart and totally appreciated the talent displayed in that video. One of MTV finest moments in my opinion when they choose to let that video play for all it was worth.

After that album hit I went on to raise my family and sort of lost the desire to be insanely into music as it arrived, it was a job that had my attention. But they will always have a special place in my soul of music. If you want all the details, info etc, check out the Bands Website ~

Enjoy this video and maybe take a few moments to close your eyes and remember that day you first heard Talking Heads. Great times.

Working from home means having the best electronics you can get

It may sounds a bit strange but it is true. One must have the best electronic devices possible in order to be productive at your job whether at a traditional brick and mortar job or while working from home. I once had a Lexmark Printer I got from a yard sale, the Optra S and this gave me the ability to print my work at a cost of 40.00 per year and gave me well over 17,000 prints. Yes, over 17,000 prints!
I dearly wish I could locate another printer like that because I have now been relegated to using a Color Laser that costs me about 30.00 per 150 prints!

You can get productivity out of many different types of printers, such as a Dot Matrix printer like the Tally Dot Matrix Printerand do so at a good price. These types of printers are especially good if your business does much form paperwork. You can also get a good amount of work accomplished at not to high a production cost if you use a Laser printer like the Ricoh Color Laser Printers. These are great if you produce pamphlets or brochures which are better done in color.

If you do not need color printing capabilities why not check out a Laser printer that does black and white, such as a Monochrome Laser Printer. In my opinion these are the best way to go in both cost and productivity, they run better and last longer. And I should know as I have run through a few printers in the last few years. Improving your work productivity is easier than you think if you have the best electronics you can get, so try to locate a good Electronic Company and see what you can find.

Happy Wednesday everyone

So, were you as moved with emotion as I was at the Presidents Speech? Oh, wait I did not watch the speech, my bad.

I know the man has great ideas, and great intentions. But as I watch CNN and hear stories of folks who have been without a job for 8 months, have eaten through their entire lifes savings AND are now working through their kids college funds; all because Congress allowed the banking system AND Wall Street to trash this country I get so freaking pissed.
What part of this aint our fault does DC not get? Want my opinion, my solution? It is easy ….. get Iraq to pay back each and every damn cent that we Americans gave them so they could have Democracy and blow my troops up when the need strikes them.
Pay me back the 12 billion per month you got Iraq, and let us have done with this all. In 1776 no one helped us keep our desire for freedom, we did this OURSELVES. No monetary loans to speak of.

I just want the money back so American Families ( whose estimated cost per month for the war in Iraq is said to be ~ $138 per family) can pay for child care, car payments, house payments retraining or school to find a job!

Oh and while I am on my soap box can we please give American Jobs to Americans out of work? Mr Bill G ates, stop saying you can not find applicants to fill your positions from inside this country that is total BS and you know it. You and your CEO cohorts are the reason that so many well qualified people are sitting on Unemployment.
Sorry for those who came from other countries for a job, go back home and make your country better.

If I have pissed anyone off today, sorry. I am excersing my rights as given to me by my countries laws…. I have freedom of speech and I am ticked off.

President Obama, thank you for caring so deeply and being so open and forthright but please …. just get my fellow country men back to where they were before they were robbed and pillaged.
Why did I choose this photograph today? Because one, it is gorgeous and two because at the end of the day this is my dream of dreams, being free to sit and see this scene in real life without having to rob a bank to do so.

Thank you

Saturday Mornings mean a visit from Molly Hatchet

Who does not remember in the early 80′s the spine tingling guitar of Molly Hatchet? And those album covers, out of sight. I always loved the covers of the albums back then, Journey, Grateful Dead; great talents were displayed. Today its all graphic art made by computer, ah well.
My first listen to a Molly Hatchet Album was in 1980, Beatin The Odds.

Who could not feel like getting up and having fun to this stuff? But who was Molly Hatchet?
The band, out of Jacksonville Florida was formed in 1975 by guitarists Steve Holland, Dave Hlubek and Duane Roland along with Danny Joe Brown vocals, bassist Banner Thomas and drummer Bruce Crump. They took the name Molly Hatchet from a Prostitute from the south who beheaded her victims, ummm – yuck.

Their first album, self titled Molly Hatchet was recorded in 1978 and went platinum, and then came Flirtin With Disaster another of my favourite Molly Hatchet Albums. Flirtin also did extremely well selling over 2 million copies. But 1980 was a bit of a turning point for the band, Brown left the band because of the stress of constant touring and Jimmy Farrar replaced him on the Album Beatin the Odds. This was where the band saw a commercial decline because apparently Farrar’s voice was “less immediately identifiable” to the public. Soon after Take No Prisoners, Farrar left the band to work on solo projects and in 82 Brown reunited with the band. This is where I as a fan sort of left the band myself, I did not feel the same Molly Hatchet influence with the album No Guts.. No Glory.

In 1985 The band released its collection album titled Double Trouble Live and in then in 1989 the band came back without Hlubek and recorded Lightening Strikes Twice which according to Allmusic.com was not even bought by the fans of MH and this is where the band disbanded. They reunited in the mid 90s and toured along with releasing an album Devils Canyon.

What are they up to today?

Duane Roland passed away in 2006, there is a website for Duane here. Danny Joe Brown also passed away, in 2005
and Stephanie Ingram wife of Bobby Ingram of Hazard Kentucky passed away in 2004.

The band just finished up a tour on the Simple Man Cruise, photos on the website of that. They played with Lynryd Skynyrd and sounds like this was a total blast for all who attended. You should really check this SImple Man Cruise out, they have a ton of bands attending.
As for any new albums in MH’s future, in 2008 Molly Hatchet Southern Rock Masters was released, made up of songs from the Southern Rock Gods and some of Molly Hatchets best live performaces as well.

It has been sad to read through the website for Molly Hatchet and the bands MySpace page and read the list of who has left us, George McCorkle of Marshall Tucker and Hughie Thomasson of Skynyrd and The Outlaws. Times are going by too fast for this rock fan, I bet heaven is one hell of a place to hang out and hear awesome music though.

I will leave you with another video of Molly Hatchet and hope you have a peace filled and rockin weekend.
