Sunday ~ the day of rest and good music from friends

First of all, want to say that Rock and Roll Classic’s Blog has a widget now for you to use and share that contains the radio station Rock and Roll Classics @ Live 365 which you can now grab right from my sidebar!
And also from the blog Chili choose one of the stand out bands of the 70′s to talk to us about ~ Bread. I used to love listening to Hooked on You when I was a kid. This was the band that along with others woke my musical soul up! I practically lived with a radio on all day long and long into the night, most times falling asleep to the sounds.

I think I would love to be able to do that again.

And from 70′s Classic Rock Blog I am going fixin to get Southern on ya’ll ~

Art’s Wordless Wednesday choice was a awesome Song from an Awesome band - Free Bird From Lynyrd Skynyrd. I bet anyone who cruised El Camino Real in the late 70′s through the early 80′s recalls the green van with Free bird on the side! I can not recall who owned that, if you are the owner and read this, give me a yell would you … would love to see a photo of the van as well. Great times cruising, so many awesome cars. My son’s would give their eye teeth to see all those classics rolling up and down in front of the Taco Bell on El C amino.

Oh, if you are frail of mind due to memories of home , do not go to Google Maps to see the old homestead! You can go and at least in Santa Clara CA, you can do the street view thing………….. bad move on my part. OMG what did they do to home? Its all discombobulated!!! I am going to need a freaking guide when I get back home just to find stuff.

Anyway, good times back then and I am told progress is good ( sigh).

My choice for today’s video placement is YES – Roundabout. I miss just chilling out on a Sunday afternoon listening to KOME while my Dad worked in the front room. Those days were good good days for me.

Have a good one peeps, I will be back later. I have some photographs of the American Bald Eagles that nest at the Lake I live near to get put up on my flickr account.

Another Soul Silenced – Richard Wright Founder of Pink Floyd 1943-2008

My husband loves Pink Floyd, to him the band, their lyrics speak to him, as they do for millions of fans across the world. I have a affinity for a few of their songs, especially Shine on You Crazy Diamond. We were so lucky to have his soul sing to us for as long as we did, God Bless him on his journey and bless his family. My thoughts are with them and all the fans who are missing such a wonderful talented man.

Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there’s a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
You were caught on the crossfire of childhood and stardom,
blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter,
come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!
You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Well you wore out your welcome with random precision,
rode on the steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions,
come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!

Sunday Ramblings ~ Craig Chaquico For A Rainy Day

Well, it’s not raining here yet, but as big as Gustav is, I swear I can feel rain in the air from where I am.
And when ever it rains there is nothing better than a guitar and a sax playing softly on a great pair of speakers.
Right now I am listening to Craig Chaquico ( formerly of Jefferson Airplane and Starship) and life is good.
My Aunt was hurt as I have reported before a few weeks ago and it was rough going, but today there was good news, and now I can smile again. She will be okay, so I will be okay.

You see my Aunt taught me some valuable things in my youth, such as how to take the wrapper from the straw , drop a bit of coke on it, and bamm! you have a snake unfurling on your table. I learned that at a lunch table in a Sears on Long Island. * yes in the old days, Sears had lunch counters* She also welcomed me back into her life many many years later as if I had not left, and now I am so grateful to God that I get another chance to one day make it to where she lives and sit and talk with her. I need her to know I love her and always have.

So as I said, Life is good, very very good. Give a listen to Cafe Carnival off Craigs Album Panorama: The Best of Craig Chaquico

Sunday Ramblings ~ Steve Miller Band, New Blogs, Ratings, and Stuff

Sunday Ramblings ~

I am the type of blogger who loves to report on what other folks are writing about, a habit I formed from my Jericho Campaign Days. I would run around for the three weeks we were at war with CBS ( yes, I said damn it, WAR ) and visit hundreds of posts, websites news organizations you name it, and grab the info on what was being said and done to save Jericho. It was nuts! Ewwwww, bad one I know :-)

Now doing this blog is a bit harder, folks who run music sites seem more into videos ( and I am guilty as charged ) but once in a while I am introduced to a blog that feels like home, full of great information given like a friend telling you a story, today that blog is Classic Video Jukebox.

His post today is about the Steve Miller Band * Gangster of Love *, and as soon as your a third the way through this post, you have the urge to get the SMB tunes into the trusty MP3 player and rock away.
I suggest if your into the history of the classic Rock Bands, that you keep this blog high on your list of daily reads, you can expect great things no matter what Chili writes about! And check this out — Steve Miller’s God Father is Les Paul!!!!! Want more tidbits? Head on over to Classic Video Jukebox :-)

In other news…….
I found the most amazing stuff on the WayBackMachine site…. yep KOME fans, the station website from 1997 through to 1998. Not every month mind ya, but enough to see how the station kind of sank like a freaking stone during those years. I could not believe what they had done to my station. * like how I have purloined the awesome KOME, I did the same thing with Brad Beyer of Jericho, he will forever be MY Brad * yeah, uh anyways……… I am so glad that I was gone for the demise of what was the BEST station in the West if not in the entire US. I left CA in 1994 about August so what ever happened, who ever did it I can only say what the hell were ya thinking?
Oh well, crying over spilled milk, kicking a dead horse, I can’t help myself.

It’s just that if one thinks about it, do you realize how many people were influenced by KOME over the years? The station and its peeps were responsible for many decisions in so many peoples lives.
I never for one moment considered the station being taken down, it just never crossed my mind. Ludicrous thoughts never do for me.

Now because of Jericho I get the whole ratings, money grubbing, big headed executives with no care or thought for what listeners/viewers want thing. It is a bottom line, and I respect that – because money makes this world go round, right? But I don’t like it, what happened to customer loyalty to a brand actually mattering to a business owner ?

When I was at RadioandRecords.com looking at the ratings, * another piccadillo I have from Jericho – thanks CBS * I see that there are only 2 Classic Rock Stations in San Jose/Bay Area !!!

The spring ratings are down across the board for KUFX, from 3.6 (SP07) 3.4 (Su07) 3.7 (FA07)3.5(WI08) and 2.9 (SP08), the only other Classic Rock ( and only ROCK) station in the Bay Area is KSAN whose ratings were 2.0, 1.2, 1.7, 1.4, 1.4 for the same time periods.

Is Rock and Roll dying? Does anyone notice this happening? The Bay Area with out rock , unimaginable.
well… here are a few Steve Miller Band Vids……… let’s hope I am totally wrong about the demise of Rock Radio.
