What is Song Tagging and HD Radio?

You know when you are driving and a song comes on the radio that you remember loving? The trick for me when that happens is to hope to remember the song when I get home so I can look it up and find where I can get it on line. Neat trick for someone my age, trust me. I have kids so I am legally brain dead.

Well there is a way now to ‘tag’ that song so you can go to iTunes later on and buy it, no memory required. At HDRadio.com which is a Digital Radio Service not a Satellite service. You simply go to a dealer and pick up the HD Radioâ„¢ receiver. This receiver has the ability to let you listen to your local stations in CD quality sound. When a song comes on that you love, simply tag it and go to iTunes to purchase, simple as pie.

The Jensen JiMS 525i Receiver is really nice, the features list is extensive and the price is really good. It has duel alarms, 30 presets and its a nice looking set. I love that this receiver will fit most any decor and fit nicely just about anywhere from the Bookcase to the shelf unit.

The quality of music you hear on HD is amazing. I listen to KUFX from the San Jose area on my computer and they offer a streaming HD channel, which is really great. You can find your available local radio stations that provide HD streams, for instance the station I mentioned listening to, KUFX is listed on this list.

I like the idea ofsong tagging, like every other service I use via the Internet the applications I use most are the applications that provide ease of use to me, and HD song tagging and the crystal clear sound they provide gives me this. I suggest you check this out, you will be glad you did.

The 10 Greatest Metal Songs of All Time

So I was watching VH1 the other morning (reasons for a true Rock Fan to be watching VH1? 5 am and sick of CNN) and watch the show 40 Greatest Metal Songs with Sebastian Back as Show Host. Note for the ladies, he still looks nice…… very nice.

I think I caught the show at number 30 something. I have huge issues with who they placed in each slot and decided to make my own list, a shorter one but better. Do you remember Head Bangers Ball, I mean when it was originally on? I lived for Saturday evenings, I would get my kids so tired by running them around the park a gazillion times. They would be ready for bed by 9 or so, and then I was free! But sadly, that was when MTV actually was a great station to watch, too bad they had to go and conform the way they did.

So without any further fanfare……… the ten greatest Metal Songs of all time ~

10. Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap ~

Why this song in number 10? Because I cut out all the damned fluff VH1 decided to line that show with and well, some one had to be in this slot.

9. Metallica – Enter The Sandman ~

I loved this album, to me Metallica came across as philosophers almost. I would listen so intently to each song and place it into events in my life.

7. Quite Riot – Mental Health ~

Definitely a song I listened to just to have fun. Some tunes do not have to be deep just head banging, am I right?

6. AC/DC – Back in Black ~

Beats that make u feel like you could beat up the Hulk, nuff said.

5. Judas Priest – Metal Gods ~

4. Metallica ~ My Friend of Misery ~

If asked what song off Metallicas Black Album was the all time best ( and it would be hard to choose just one) I would have to say My Friend of Misery. Check out the words ~

You just stood there screaming
Fearing no one was listening to you
They say the empty can rattles the most
The sound of your voice must soothe you
Hearing only what you want to hear
And knowing only what youve heard
You youre smothered in tragedy
Youre out to save the world

3. Scorpions – Animal Magnetism ~

While I could have chosen many of thier songs, this one opens with the most deliousous of sounds which is my love in all things metal, how the song opens…. does it pump through my blood and make me feel unreal?

2. Dio – Rainbow In The Dark ~

1. Ozzy – Crazy train ~
Okay here VH1 and I totally disagree, the Oz man takes the cake for metal anything each and every time. I bow to the King of Metal.
And I have to say this, Ozzy is the happiest man I have ever seen and I loved watching his show.:-)

And while I could not fit it into the 10 best, this song is just a plain cool memory of my early days of Rocking………. so here ya go.

So there you have it, my choices for the best of Metal. I hope everyone had a great day today, with lots of kids running around screaming in ecstasy as all mine were. It is not Christmas morning with out squeals of happiness from the kids.

Robin Trower or Roy Buchanan~ Either Way If You Love Guitar You Win

In the course of trying to find some of the best Guitarists of my youth, I talked to a friend of mine in Canada who is an avid fan of Roy Buchanan ( of The Messiah Comes fame) and she waxed so greatly about him I had to see what he was about.
Roy was what some called a Guitar Aficionado, he played with Hendrix and it is said that he could make his guitar cry and moan like a woman in love. You know when you hear that, its a given your going to go hear him, so check this out its impressive:
* this is for you my dear friend MC :-) *
now we can move on to Robin Trower – Bridge of Sighs…. my God what a glorious set this is ~

Bridge of Sighs was one of the best songs to go to sleep by, you know… when on that Saturday night you had partied just a tad too much and needed to be rocked to sleep. The fact that this video was from 2005 does not surprise me one bit either, some things like wine and rock only get better with age.

So who do you think compares to Trower and Buchanan ? Let me know your picks here, who sang you to sleep? I will do a post for the person / band who gets the most comments.

until next time my friends, do Rock On
